Everyone has the capacity for creative expression. Therapeutic recreation (TR), and organized activities are an integral part of Courtland Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, formerly Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home.
Our TR team leads programs designed to meet the physical, cultural, social, cognitive, emotional and creative needs of our residents.
They use social events, community outings and educational classes to achieve these goals and to enable individuals to establish healthy leisure lifestyles.
To stimulate our residents' creativity and imaginations, music, art, current events, baking and many, many other wonderful activities are developed. These actions are chosen to reduce anxiety, remind them of better times, and awaken their senses.
No matter what level of physical or mental challenges our residents are facing, they are included in the therapeutic recreation events to enhance their quality of life.
There is a full schedule of activities everyday. Orchestras, choirs, dancers and teachers visit our residents regularly. Children from schools also stop. Small group events are geared to residents who need special attention. Room-bound residents can enjoy fulfilling activities that are brought to them.
Family Involvement
We understand that placing a family member in a nursing home can be difficult. That's why we encourage family members to join activities, to visit loved ones frequently, and to share in special occasions and holidays. Children and grandchildren can make a relative's day a joyous occasion. Families are also encouraged to attend art and music programs and enjoy wine and cheese receptions with our guests.
Our Social Work department coordinates family counseling, conducts support groups and is always available to discuss family concerns.
Community Involvement
Residents can develop special relationships and stay active when volunteers visit Courtland Gardens from schools, synagogues, churches and other community institutions. Speakers provide enriching cultural discussions and lectures, and residents participate in special events.
