The ICLL, part of the Rubin Institute
for Advanced Orthopedics, opened at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in July 2001 in a
brand new six-story facility designed by the Center's co-founders, Drs. Dror
Paley, John E. Herzenberg, and Michael Mont. Drs. Paley and Herzenberg were
previously part of the Maryland Center for Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction
at Kernan Hospital for 14 and 10 years, respectively, and were the first team
in the United States to dedicate their practices to limb lengthening
and deformity reconstruction. To expand their facility and offer new and improved
clinical and research services, they moved their operation to the new Rubin
Institute for Advanced Orthopedics and added a third limb lengthening surgeon,
Dr. Janet Conway. By teaming with Dr. Mont, the new Center is able to offer
state-of-the-art joint replacement and joint preservation techniques that were
not available at the MCLLR.
The ICLL is part of Sinai's Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO), which provides state-of-the-art orthopedic expertise in various subspecialties of orthopedic surgery, such as total joint replacement and treatments for avascular necrosis. The ICLL also has access to the full array of medical services available at Sinai Hospital, a 428-bed community teaching hospital with residency training programs in pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and rehabilitation medicine. Sinai Hospital offers all the benefits of a modern teaching hospital, including up-to-date state-of-the-art anesthesia, pain management, radiology, and emergency and intensive care facilities, with the warmth and feel of a community hospital.
